Reuben - Gig News -- Posted by rock3 on Wednesday, June 1 2005
Wednesday June 15th 2005 @ Academy 3, Manchester. Tickets £6 adv, Doors 7:30pm
Feted by Kerrang!, Rock Sound, NME and MTV2, Reuben follow up last years breakthrough success by calling in at Manchester on a tour to promote new single 'A Kick In The Mouth' ahead of the release of second album 'Very Fast Very Dangerous' later in the summer.
Though rated as one of the best new rock groups in Britain, Reuben are more like a five years in the making success story, with a reputation built on a succession of fine EP's and singles since the release of the debut Pilot EP in 2000. These, accompanied by regular tours, kept the attention of the mainstream rock media in anticipation of their long awaited debut album 'Racecar is Racecar Backwards' which was finally released in June last year. 2004 was a triumphant year for Reuben, with their debut album entering the independent chart top ten with over ten thousand sales, headed by a clutch of singles including 'Stuck In My Throat' and the anthemic 'Freddy Kreuger'. The band also earned Radio 1 Evening Session and MTV2 singles of the week and were nominated for Best British Newcomer at the Kerrang! A wards.
Less than a year after the release of their debut, the band follow up the release of download-only single 'Blamethrower' in April by releasing the single 'A Kick In The Mouth' to precede the release of second album 'Very Fast Very Dangerous' due out in August. As menacing as it is catchy, 'A Kick in the Mouth' looks sat to be the track that elevates Reuben from being cult darlings of the rock press to serious mainstream contenders. With the album, like the single produced by Foo Fighters producer Chris Sheldon, it shows a bigger, ambitious, more diverse side to the band, with a collaboration with touring buddy Karl Middleton (Blueprint, ex-earthtone9) among the highlights, expect this to be the year Reuben go massive.
