46p Corned Beef Accident Wins Them Management + Record Deal

'Politics & Cigarettes' out 20th March

The VOOM BLOOMS release their debut single 'Politics & Cigarettes' on 2Oth March through Fiction/ Polydor. This will be preceded by their lengthy headline Club NME tour and 2 dates with Boy Kill Boy.

The VOOM BLOOMS were formed in Spring 2005 in Loughborough and quickly became one of the big successes on My Space last year as well as having their demo 'London Heads' played on Lamacq. Their big enigmatic songs captivated a full house at In The City.

A date with The Paddingtons and an accident with a tin of corned beef had some unexpected spin-offs. As George from the band explains:

"The night before the Paddingtons gig Craig was feeling hungry and reached for his usual dose of 46p corned beef. When opening the tin he sliced the top of his finger open. The next day, needing stitches and treatment but knowing he would be forced out of action if he went to hospital, he made himself a bandage out of kitchen paper and ducktape, jumped in the van and made his way up to Northampton. He knew that as soon as he played one note his finger could open up, but nonetheless he stumbled onto the stage infront of a packed Roadmenders. As the opening chords to 'Lovers' rang out his finger, as predicted, burst open, covering his white Strat guitar, jeans, amp and the crowd in blood. But being the trooper he is, he played on and we delivered one of their most breathtaking shows. To this day his guitar still bears the scars."

Watching in the crowd the Paddingtons manager was blown away by their songs and their attitude (particularly Craig's) and by the end of the night he was their manager too. Unsurprising Craig formed a bond with Marv, The Paddingtons guitarist who had severed the tendons in his hand earlier that year.

Charity Gig in aid of Parkinson’s Disease Society (PDS). -- Posted by rock3 on Saturday, February 18 2006
29th March - The Black Sheep, Croydon (thats a wednesday)
“ROCK THIS CHARITY!
GrooveMonsteR and The Super Dead will fill Maggie's desert trek with rocket fuel. These 2 bands will deliver pure Rock fury at the Black Sheep Bar in Croydon on Wednesday 29th March 2006. GrooveMonsteR is a fiery breath of atmospheric energy and monster power, laced with lyrics from psychedelic fairy tales and humour reminiscent of Cheech and Chong, simply a must see! Exclusive to this event is the launch of the new GrooveMonsteR EP CD (title TBC). Seeing is believing and you can can have a sneak preview on www.myspace.com/groovemonster

Charity INFO:

TREKING THE OLDEST DESERT IN WORLD FOR CHARITY
- And how this links to pure Rock fury! -

Maggie Vaidya, from Croydon, is getting ready to undertake a unique personal and physical challenge and trek 130km through the searing heat of the North Namib desert to raise funds for the Parkinson’s Disease Society (PDS). Through her role as a PA at the Parkinson’s Disease Society, Maggie has seen the impact Parkinson’s has on people living with the condition, their families and carers. It was this insight that inspired her to sign up for the challenge.

Between 14th and 24th May, Maggie will experience the isolation and climatic extremes of the oldest desert in the world and witness high isolated desert mountains made from blood red granites and dramatic sand dunes. With just 65 people living within the trek area, which is similar in size to Wales, it’s more likely that Maggie will come across zebra and ostrich rather than local inhabitants during his expedition. She will walk up to 25 km a day in temperatures fluctuating between 0 degrees and 35 degrees centigrade.

By taking part in this challenge, Maggie will be one of only a handful of people to enter the Namib-Naukluft Park, and experience Namibia at its finest and most challenging.
Maggie Vaidya said: “I’m really looking forward to taking part in the Namibia Challenge. This will be the first time I’ve ever done anything like this, so it will be a special and rewarding challenge. I feel it is such an honour to have the opportunity to make a difference in this way. Every day through my job, I learn more about Parkinson’s and the work the Society is carrying out and I wanted to do something too. I’m happy knowing that the money I raise will go towards funding further research into Parkinson’s and improving local support for people affected by the condition.”

Maggie is organising a fundraising gig at the Black Sheep Bar in Croydon on Wednesday 29th March. The £3 levy on the door will go towards the Parkinson’s Disease Society and we were hoping this event could be included in your listings and possibly featured in your news column or special features pages.
Alternatively, donations can be made at: PDS Sales Ltd, Parkinson’s Disease Society, 215 Vauxhall Bridge Road, London SW1V 1EJ

Dragonforce News -- Posted by rock3 on Wednesday, February 15 2006
The mighty DRAGONFORCE have found themselves a new bassist. Stepping up to fill the slot vacated last year by Adrian Lambert, who left the band to spend more time with his family, is DRAGONFORCE’s current ‘touring bassist’ Frederic Leclercq.

Formerly guitarist with French metal outfit, Heavenly, Fred is a longtime friend of DRAGONFORCE guitarist, Herman Li. Whilst out on the road with DRAGONFORCE, the band realised that Fred fitted into the band perfectly and invited him to join on a permanent basis.
Fred is a bit of a super-talented ‘multi-man’. As well as being fluent in the English, French and German languages (and swear words in most others!), Fred is actually multi-instrumental (he plays guitar, bass, keyboards and sings) in multiple metal genres (death, speed, thrash, classical, glam, black and just plain metal and rock).

Fred’s accession to full-time status adds even more international colour to DRAGONFORCE’s ranks. The London-based outfit can now boast a South African frontman (ZP Theart), guitarists from Hong Kong and New Zealand (Herman Li and Sam Totman, respectively), a Ukrainian keyboardsman (Vadim Pruzhanov) to add to their British drummer (Dave Mackintosh) and now, French bassist.

Meanwhile, DRAGONFORCE’s current album, ‘Inhuman Ramage’ is flying out of the shops and their recent UK tour sold-out weeks in advance, culminating in a show at London’s Astoria Theatre. Selling faster than debut Roadrunner albums from the likes of Slipknot and Trivium and shattering Roadrunner Records’ initial sales target for the album after just 21 days, it’s apparent that this year belongs to DRAGONFORCE.
DRAGONFORCE are currently in mainland Europe continuing their current tour. They return to these parts in March, when they’ll play the following shows, across the Irish sea. Expect to see more of DRAGONFORCE in the UK in June.

Sat 18th March – Dublin Ambassador Theatre
Sun 19th March – Belfast Spring & Airbrake

"...this album is surely one of the best to be released this year, oozing with raw talent and screaming of professionalism you would be hard pushed to find fault." (Skratch The Surface)

"Savage jazzy extreme metal progressions, a rollercoaster of intensity, rollercoaster rollercoaster, jump on Savage Henry, get on the damn bus, close the door, ring the bell. Heavy music with a slightly different slant on things." (Organ)

"Like the Mars Volta being masterminded by Sikth's Mikee; crazy, deranged, brutal, but at the same time melodic, soothing and thought provoking. Blindingly good." (Rock Midgets) 5/5

"One of the most inventive metal album of the past decade." (Drowned In Sound) 8/10

"Outstanding Metal album of unquenchable energy" )Rock3 9/10)

FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND CANCEL UK TOUR -- Posted by rock3 on Wednesday, February 8 2006
Funeral For A Friend have been forced to postpone their current sold out UK tour
as singer Matt Davies has contracted laryngitis and has been ordered to rest.

"We want to send our apologies to everyone who was coming to see us," explains
Matt. "Due to the laryngitis that is still in my system I can't perform to
anywhere near the best of my ability, which is something that I want to have
happen when we play a show. We will make it up to everyone who bought tickets,
and I want to personally send a big thank you to all of those people who have
sent me their good wishes. We will be back."

The cancelled shows are to be rescheduled for late May. Exact dates will be
announced soon. Tickets will remain valid for the rescheduled dates.
