My Awesome Compilation new album ‘FRONTIERS’ is ready to be released and after waiting 3 years the fans are getting intense with anticipation:
“With the new material,” explains drummer Andy Driver, “we have gone for a darker, more intense edge. We wrote the songs like mini movie plots, some based on real experiences, (‘Accelerate’ — a car chase!), some on stories (‘Ghosts On The Underground’) and some simply plucked from our imagination (‘The Theatre Room’).”
“Lyrically, we have taken a new slant from the last album,” continues vocalist/guitarist Chris Driver, “Where we assume different characters and angles in each song to add to the dynamic. We wanted this album to be only half an hour long and hard hitting. There is an element of frustration in songs like ‘accelerate’ and ‘hostage’; it suits the content of the song and gives it an edge - anger. I guess we’re definitely a bit pissed off at the music industry and we’ve come up with darker subjects to write about (‘Red Is For Danger’ - A guy ready to kill) to release our feelings.”
“We’ve still kept FRONTIERS very much in the MAC vein and worked hard on the melodies and structures (with producer Larry Hibbitt),” says bassist Darius Cobb, “So it still has the hooks, the sweet choruses and rocking keyboard lines. But we’ve brought an edge and a purpose to the songs too.”

Cage The Elephant’s early evening show at the Earl Of Camden saw queues around the block as people tried to get into the show.
,
The Camden Crawl allows ticket holders to move between venues in NW1 throughout the festival, although the popularity of some bands meant that some waiting was required.
,
Playing a half hour set of scuzzy rhythm and blues Cage The Elephant got down and dirty with the crowd, with lead singer Matt Schultz leaning into the mosh pit at the front.
,
In the middle of the set Schultz climbed onto the speakers and made his way down the bar, singing into the microphone while fans crowd-surfed towards the stage. Having made his way safely back to the rest of his band Schultz then dived head first into the sweaty throng.
,
The singer careered towards the floor, with only his feet visible for a moment as he disappeared into the crowd, before returning to the stage. Schultz appeared to have almost lost a shoe in the incident, explaining: “Fuck, I thought I’d have to walk around the rest of the day with just one shoe!”
,
With the set finished Cage The Elephant decided to leave the stage by walking through the crowd – with some band members attempting to crowd surf towards the door.

Rock3 Review of RULE THE DAY HERE (we said it was the best, before the rest!)
Featuring the smash hit single “Wake Up” Black Swan explores social and moral issues close to the band’s heart. With themes of war and prejudice, and taking lyrical inspiration from the likes of Carl Sagan among others, the group’s latest album finds the band in a refined state. “Musically, we’ve grown so much. We have some very unique, timeless, face melting guitar riffs and solos that have come to define our sound, without compromising the idea of a classic song,” explains guitarist Ryan Phillips.
Story of the Year’s first single, ‘Wake Up’ is up on the band’s MySpace page and will be released in the UK on May 19th.. watch the video here:
“Making this record felt like starting over,” says front man Dan Marsala. “We’re like a brand new band. You can hear it in these songs, we’re excited again. I think we’ve really stepped it up on this record.”
The album and single are released on Epitaph records in the UK www.storyoftheyear.net

Those unqualified vagrants of Rock known as the super group Velvet Revolver hit the UK in March with support from the superb band Pearl (ft Scott Ian - Anthrax ) and Rock3 was there snapping away with our two super heroes.. read the review and soak up the atmosphere in pictures and words from the Birmingham show HERE:
Not every band can claim that they got together whilst playing a huge open-air festival in the Henan Province of China; and not every band can boast talent ranging from the bands GETAMP3D, Rooster and Pitchshifter. CHINASTYLE can.
In October 2007 these four guys realized that their special bond could create an immense fortress of music, CHINASTYLE was born. The four members of the band have toured relentlessly over the last few years (in their previous guises) and been responsible for over a quarter of a million album sales worldwide. CHINASTYLE will excite the senses and enlighten the soul.

Doing this job of the evening can be very rewarding, it always is from a photography side of things, however musically you do get some nights when you think, I’m not gon’na enjoy this, whilst driving to Birmingham the later thought was in my head.,
I?m down in the pit waiting for the main act, Maylene And The Sons Of Disaster a couple a minutes later they casually stroll onto the stage, a bit of fine tunning, and then, bang, right between the eyes, full on in your face southern rock n roll, I?m taken back, what?s happening here, the cameras flying through the shots and all I?m thinking is that these boys are good, I mean really good. They are basically a bunch of hillbillies that have been blessed with a lead man that has you jaw wide open?. Dallas Taylor works the venue from front to back, in the crowd, back to the stage, he?s every where, musically they are bang on ? ripping through the tracks at an all to quick pace ? its too easy for Dallas, as a matter of fact its all to easy for them all, I wouldn?t be surprised if MATSOD became massive, the potential is defiantly there ?it?s a good gig, totally the opposite to my thoughts when driving in ? Thanks to Andy at ferret records, I have now received the cd, I’ve gota say it?s even better than the live event. It?s got a deep classic rock root that?s morphed with violent backwoods influence, there?s only ffwd track on it ?Wylie, but that?s because it?s followed by the classic,? Death in a Alcoholic? backed up with, ? memories of the grove?, ?plenty strong and plenty wrong? the last couple of tracks, tale of the runaways & the day hell broke loose at Sicard hollow bring you down to a kind of early pink floyd/ country sound that again I find that I keep repeating them, it?s a bit addictive. you?ve probably gathered by now that I?ve enjoyed my Maylene experience ?..You tube um, my space um, whatever you do, find um ?..they are quality and they will be big ??… James Hope(james@rock3music.com)
